There is compelling evidence from the DfE's Attendance Data that moving a child from the 90% to 94.9% bracket of attendance to the 95% plus bracket could raise their English and Maths results by one whole grade. School attendance is now a pressing issue nationally. Department for Education data shows that 2.3% of pupils were ‘severely absent’ in 2023-24, up from 2.0% in 2022-23, with a record 170,000 children in England missing at least half of classes in 2024. Traditional approaches to improving attendance are not having the immediate impact required.
